As happy-go-lucky and kind as she is intelligent, even through an alien invasion and years of forced labor Piper has remained more or less a cheerful ball of sunshine. She's very emotive and curious, always up for a new adventure or project (although this enthusiasm can sometimes impair her critical thinking, as will be explained later). Piper comes to like and trust people remarkably quickly, and will gladly offer her help and companionship even to people she hardly knows; when it comes to her close friends she's devoted and warm nearly to an extreme.
One reason for this friendliness of hers is that she relates very strongly to people on an emotional level; what she sees people feeling, she feels as well, and she's almost always paying attention to the moods and subtle emotional cues of others; cheerful she may be, but oblivious she is not. The trouble with this high empathy level of hers is that when others are feeling down or angry, it affects her own emotional state very strongly; while generally she'll push through and keep her chin up anyway, she's not always the most emotionally stable person when feelings around her are running high.
On the other hand, despite this Piper makes for an excellent person to go to for comfort or help, because she's very understanding about just about everything. She may not always know exactly what to say, but she will never, ever judge, because she feels what other people feel and will try to respect their space. Really, above all, she just wants everyone to be happy.
Which is all well and good, but is also a very naive mindset to have in the middle of an interstellar war. For all her good intentions, Piper is still very inexperienced and overly trusting of others -- while thankfully it's likely that few others in the Light would actively wish her harm, if they did she would be very vulnerable to manipulation. While she's brilliant at engineering, mechanics, and just general trivia, her common sense and discretion levels still need a lot of work.
Along these same lines, Piper is not the best with planning ahead and staying aware of dangerous situations. She relies a lot on her intuition and quick decisions, which generally don't steer her wrong, but planning on the fly isn't always the best way to go on sensitive missions. And while if someone else comes up with a plan she'll generally be good at following instructions, she gets distracted quickly by her curiosity. When she sees an alien or no bit of technology, even a potentially or overtly hostile one, she might be more interested in trying to figure out how it works than paying attention to the tension of the situation. Her fear response just isn't what it probably should be.
Piper also has a propensity for teasing and joking (only in fun, of course, never in a mean-spirited way), and while she invariably notices and tries to correct it when she goes too far, she's not great at telling ahead of time what might or might not be crossing a line, especially with people she doesn't know well. Especially given how she may act familiar with people too quickly for their comfort, this tendency can lead to some nasty consequences if she doesn't check herself.
All that aside, though, Piper generally makes a very good team player; a lot of her immaturity can be chalked up to the fact that she's, well...still only fifteen, alien invasions aside. She's still just a kid and learning, and while that doesn't make it any less harmful if she messes up, especially in sensitive situations, but there's still potential for her to be better -- as well as potential for her to be worse in other ways, of course, but she'd like to think she can only improve from here.

[ S T R E N G T H S • W E A K N E S S E S]
✔ Highly intelligent - able to think well on her feet, particularly regarding her skill in mechanics; book-smart
✔ Good team player - good at listening to and working with others, in battle situations or otherwise
✘ Not always in tune with the danger of a situation - her curiosity and general idealism may blind her to the threats posed by unfamiliar situations; overly optimistic/trusting, in a sense
✘ Not very physically strong - fairly self-explanatory; she needs to rely on either her mind or others to solve matters of physical force

Piper was born five years preceding the Monsoros takeover of Earth to a lower-middle-class couple in a small town; although she remembers very little of her childhood, she spent a lot of happy time at home with her house-husband father, pattering around the house playing and making a nuisance of herself, as toddlers and young children tend to do. Her family was never extremely well-off, but their three-person family got by comfortably enough on her mother's salary.
Even at at this early age she showed signs of being a very quick learner, and was already starting to learn basic reading skills before the invasion.
But, well, then the Monsoros came and that was the end of that.
Her family managed to stay together through the surrender of Earth (something she thanks her lucky stars for), and was among the group that was kept on Earth rather than being loaded onto a prison ship or sent to another planet. She was too young to really understand what was going on at the time, but her family was rounded up and assigned to a mine near their home town, where they were to assist with harvesting metals and any other useful minerals that the Monsoros could use.
Piper, being as tiny as she was, was not immediately put to work in the mine, where she would be about as effective at harvesting as a grasshopper; rather, she and a number of other small children her age were used to perform basic, non-skilled tasks like assembling tools to be used for the mining projects.
Piper proved to be surprisingly good at the latter job; as she got older she was given similar but slightly larger-scale work like repairing the interior of any larger mechanical mining equipment, since she was small enough to crawl around inside them easily; although the Monsoros were very, very careful not to give any work to humans that could potentially sabotage them. Piper wouldn't have tried anyway; although she rarely saw her parents anymore, she knew they were around and wouldn't take any chances on the possibility that they would be harmed for her actions, if the Monsoros knew they were related. She had at least that much common sense.
Once she hit her teen years, she was moved to the mine itself to work, and there she remained for the next couple years, although as with anything she learned, she never really forgot the skills she picked up during the years she was used for repair work; by the time she was moved to other areas of labor she already had a good grasp of mechanics -- for, you know, a ten-year old.
Working in the mines was truly one of the most awful experiences she ever had; it was dark, and either stiflingly quiet or horribly loud. Looking back, Piper is unsure why the Monsoros didn't do more strip mining since they obviously didn't care about the health of the planet, although she supposed they might have elsewhere and decided not to in their location, since a subsurface mine already existed.
Regardless, it was filthy, dangerous work, and Piper absolutely hated it. She kept herself optimistic, as she had through all the years since the invasion, by reminding herself that her family was still alive, and that surely someday they would be freed again. She did whatever she had to to cheer herself up (which often included having to cheer others up as well) -- telling stories, running through mechanical schematics in her head, reminding herself of the alphabet and what words she could read.
When she woke up one morning, rather than being escorted to the mines, she and a large number of other laborers (she didn't see her parents) were transported to a cargo ship, much to her dawning horror. From what she came to understand later, more labor was needed in another system, and the ones working on this mine had been decided to be more useful there than at this mine or elsewhere on Earth. However, during the journey (during which Piper was feeling more negative than she ever had in her life) the cargo ship was boarded and its prisoners smuggled away by a race calling themselves the Nymm.
Piper was so thrilled that her dream of rescue was finally coming true that the possibility that this may be too good to be true didn't even cross her mind. It was finally happening! A way to help her home! Why should she be anything but grateful, anything but eager to join the garrison and the fight, and possibly rescue her parents, and everyone else the Monsoros had ever subjugated?
Given that she already had some experience with and even talent for mechanics and engineering, that was the role she was sorted into; Piper is now part of the Novanoid squad. She never even knew what a pangolin was before the invasion, but heck, she loves 'em now. Not that she knows much about actual pangolins, but she hopes to learn someday.
▌ E X T R A
Piper is a frequent sufferer of nightmares and occasionally sleep paralysis, although she's generally good at shaking them off afterwards.
She gives very good hugs.
She's an incurable night owl, and insists that she gets all her best work done at night. Whether or not this is true is up for debate.
She can fix almost anything, given some time; mechs she can fix very quickly, since they're something she's actually had training to work on.
Piper is a sympathetic crier; if someone else cries, there will be tears.
While she remembers very little from the time before the invasion, she recalls bits and pieces; for example, she knows her favorite flavor is cinnamon.
She also remembers that she really loved the sound of the piano, and would love nothing more than to see or hear one again and even learn to play it if she could.

Style: Lit is strongly preferred, but headcanons are okay too! I can do script, but I prefer not to unless it's absolutely the only thing you're comfortable with.
Method: In order of preference: Skype, DA Notes, Google Docs, Comments, DA Chat
Availability: Aaaa, this kind of depends on whether the school year is going on and how many other RPs I have going! I'm usually pretty available, but it depends and I might be pretty slow, sorry.
Shipping Availability: Yes, sure!
• Although if Piper is going to seriously date anyone, I'd much prefer for there to be a fair amount of development involved in the relationship, and I'm not comfortable shipping her with anyone older than 16. QvQ

HECK!! Your art style is so cute?? I also adore the colors you chose for all of her. Her outfit, her hair, her eyes!! All v nice :3c
Also I really like her backstory!! The fact that she stayed on Earth for a long time is actually a really cool little snippet! I didn't even think of the fact that they probably could have stayed there! I can't wait to see more of this kiddo!
