Man, I love this guy. Hidan completely gave the otherwise boring series a breath of life with his foul-language and perky personality. Not to mention his....mmmm delicious looking biceps
...and the fact that he goes around exposing his chest...and his big bad weapon...and his voice...ohmygawd!!
He's the "Bishie in the Spotlight" this time. You'll see more of him soon

After what happened in the series between him and Asuma, I just can't bring myself to like Hidan. DX He did make me fangirl even more over Shikamaru though, so I guess it's a hate/love/hate relationship I have with that particular character. xD If I get back into reading the series again and see Hidan, I'll have to try and give him a chance. >.>
I think other than the Asuma thing...his cult-ish-ness also kinda turned me off from him because it scurred me. o 3o;

Aww. Actually, I was more focused on his personality/powers and his relationship with Kakuzu (which was really cute) rather than the story itself since I haven't watched any for over a year. Just happened to randomly click an episode that had him. Hidan was all priest-like in appearance until he opened his mouth. Kinda like Sanzo, except he's not emo
But yeah, if I was a huge fan of the series, I might have felt the same way you did. Still, I thought Asuma was getting redundant in the series that this was Kishi's way of reducing unnecessary characters and develop others (Shikamaru)
I agree his cult-ish style of killing was freaky but unique. C:
