the detail is just amazing, I don't know anything about this Greeble plugin but it sounds really cool.
I agree on the whale thing, it does look really good, but I would actually push the design further and add little " fins" on either side.

is this still doing with the other things, those soldiers and ruins????
Anyway you keep impresing me, you should be working with ILM or something...
i recently started playing around with maya and i can't barely control it, it has so many options, i can't hardly believe you can do these great models in just 5 hours....
...but i think my problem is the language

looking damn good so far... I know how pain staking all the extrudes and bevels are... takes a lot of time... and I hope you're gonna finish up the side hence the WIP i know looking great so far... the texturing is gonna be such a pain though :-P

Heheh...thanks. I didn't add all those little box-details by hand though. There's a great plug-in called Greeble that handles most of it, if you provide it with an appropriate mesh. If you use MAX, all I can say is GET IT!!! It's free on the web.

How am I gonna skin it? Slowly, my friend, slowly...lol. No seriously, a lot of strategically placed masks should handle most of the problems.

Holy crap thats some fine detail. I can see the 5 hours spent into this was well worth it. What kind of system you running to create these detailed images? I know you need alot of memory for these, and how long have you been working with 3D modeling?

BluntieDK In reply to zulu-eos [2004-01-20 13:52:42 +0000 UTC]
Thanks alot.
Well, I'm using a 2.2 P4 with 512 ram. I don't even have half the amount of ram you need for these kinds of things. It's sloooooow work, but rewarding.

this is really exciting!
first you posted a fairly simple design and now (only a few more hours of work later) its a freaking detailed monster!
does it transform like the Macross??? Tell me it transforms!
hehe, seriously though, great job - you must have lots of experience in 3DS max to do this in 5 hours. I cant even model a poop in 3DSmax (I tried once).

Trans...form...? *gag, choke* Ummm...no. It doesn't. You bastard. Lol.
But there will be moving parts and landing lights and thrusters and little fighters and stuff like that.

From the design and color it looks like it's straight out of Alien. Greats work

BluntieDK In reply to chrisbeaver [2004-01-20 13:56:47 +0000 UTC]
Heh, thanks alot.
Well, I guess nobody can help being inspired by the designs in the Alien films. What I love most about those is that all the tech have this really *heavy* feel. No graceful lines or nothing, just really gritty, boxy, industrial looks. THAT'S how big-ass spaceships should look!

Thanks man, really appreciate it. Funny you should mention it looks like a whale...that means my design process wasn't a complete waste of time. That's more or less what it started out as.
