Throughout the year, medicine cats diligently collect seeds that fall from Rootshade. When a kit is born, a special ceremony is held before the Great Rootshade where the kit is officially named. During this ceremony, a seed from Rootshade is gifted to each kit, serving as a symbol of their future and the role they will play in the clan's legacy.
These seeds are then tied to the roof of the nursery, directly above each kit's nest. Suspended above them, the seeds are a constant reminder of their roots and the importance of Rootshade in their lives. The seeds symbolize potential and growth, mirroring the development of the kits as they grow and learn about their clan's history and values.
When the time comes for a kit to be named an apprentice, another significant milestone is marked. The young cat takes their seed and plants it in the ground around the grove as a warrior apprentice, and Meadowstep as a medicine cat. This act is not only a rite of passage but also a contribution to the future of the clan. Each planted seed will grow into a new tree, providing more security for future generations of Mapleclan cats. If a cat dies before becoming an apprentice, the seed will be planted with the kit.
