Description
Welcome to another episode of "Hortensia's design changes every time I draw her"anyways i haven't drawn her in months and i hated her original design so
1)- This is Hortensia fully grown; she's a big girl, but not the biggest. Griffins have a serious range in size, the largest being around 10 feet tall and the smallest being able to fit in someone's hand (so basically from elephant to teacup chihuahua size). A griffin's size really depends on what mix they are. If they're a mix of a big cat and a big bird, they end up being a pretty massive griffin, and vice versa for small types.
Hortensia's exact breed is a little bit up in the air. Branch knows she's a raven, but as for her feline half, he has no idea. Her black pelt would suggest a panther, but her fur takes on the exact same shade as her feathers; very uncommon for griffins, which are typically never solid-coloured. The shape of her haunches/paws/etc don't seem to match any specific cat, either. He's come to determine that Hortensia is a mixed-breed, being made up of several different cats.
also i redesigned her. i got rid of the stripes bc they looked dumb. she has spots now.
2)- And here's a much younger Hortensia, when she was still a 'kitten', and thus a bit smaller. Griffins take a bit longer than most animals to fully grow, being about 2 years.
When asked about domesticating griffins, Branch ensures that they are great pets. But he also warns that they're exactly what they advertise, being, well, giant catbirds. Cats like to knock things over and walk all over your stuff, right? Imagine that, but massive. Birds like to scream and chew things; imagine that, but massive. With both of those things packed into one animal, it can get a little tiresome. They're also very affectionate, which sounds nice at first, but then you remember that a gigantic animal trying to curl up with you is a lot different from a mere housecat. He usually suggests that if one wants to adopt a griffin, get a small one.
In terms of behaviour, Hortensia is a good girl. Griffins are typically quite loyal and obedient. But like any furry companion, she has her moments, like when she's mad at Branch. She likes to take things; his prosthetic being her favourite, because she knows he needs it. Usually, it only takes a firm 'drop it' to get it back, but if she's particularly displeased with him, it takes a full on wrestling match.
