When she was a filly, Derpy was exceptionally talented, winning or placing very highly in several flying competitions above the likes of Spitfire, Lightning Dust and even Rainbow Dash, but as her eye issue worsened she became unable to keep up. She now works as a delivery mare.

She is the daughter of Vanilla and a friend of the Chao race, best reflected in Cheese, until her mother was kidnapped by the evil Dr. Eggman. She would meet "Mister Sonic" in her quest to pursue her mother, and eventually joined his group of friends. The young rabbit has often joined them in adventures that have the world at stake, aiding them in saving it time and again. She is often with her mother and Gemerl, her guardian, growing into a hero with Sonic's confidence and her friends behind her.
