Sophie doesn't feel normal very often. She has started to realize that there is no real validity in "feeling normal", but she was certainly used to living in an unremarkable way before her mutation. In the time since, she has learned to appreciate her moments of solitude even more than she used to, simply existing in her new state, toward which she has no malice, free from the prying eyes of observers, to whom she stands out more than she would like. She can simply exist in her flexible state. She can simply exist with her tail. Without the gaze of prying eyes, her anxiety has no source, and begins to dry up and be replaced with self-acceptance. Perhaps one day she will not need solitude to allow this self-acceptance to abide. Perhaps she will learn to exist peacefully in defiance of external anxieties. Time will tell, but for now, there is the winter wind, and the cocoa, and nothing else. On this moment of Christmas, Sophie is at peace.
