Roland used to be a male knight before dying to a monster. For his efforts and bravery, Roland was ressurected as a woman to fight in the service of a higher power.
The original story (Trial By Fire) was hastily written and the lore was half-baked to the point that I cannot help but cringe when re-reading it. I've since decided to re-write the whole thing and give it the proper treatment it deserves. A lot, including the reason for Roland's transformation, has been changed or expanded upon.
