Description Long story behind this one. A week ago or so, my boyfriend and I woke up about 2 o'clock in the middle of the night - the fire alarm of our apartment-building was howling. We ran out of our door, and could immediately smell the smoke. Darn, not an exercise or an accidental false alarm this time... When we got down on the street (we live on the second floor), the first of the fire brigade trucks had already parked, and fire men ran up the stairs. We didn't see any flames though - the firemen got the fire under control pretty fast. Luckily it was only a couple of sofas and some stuff on an outdoor terrace (the terraces are inside the building, but simply have the wall towards the backyard missing) on the floor above our apartment that got burned.

It was a little scary, and it still is - the terrace haven't been cleaned yet, and everything out there is totally black, burned or melted. The photo is of one of two lamps that were melted by the heat of the fire. On the night, the light in those two lamps (after the fire had been extinguished) looked really creepy, but I haven't been able to get a photo of it because the bulbs died. The lamp looks cool during the day too though.

I hope you like it - I actually see this photo as much as art as many as my other photos, it's just a very different form of photography than what I usually do

I would really like to hear what you think about the photo

Whoa, thank you so much for my first DD!

Omigosh, it's good you're okay! My house also burned down last month, and I can't go inside because it's too scary (as well as heartbreaking, but.... mostly scary). It's true though, some of the things are really interesting after they're burned and melted. We mostly laugh at our things, for example, "mystery appliance". It's got plastic, metal, and wires... but we can't tell what it was. xD

Congratulations on the DD, and once again, I'm glad both of you are safe. Thank goodness for fire alarms (even though ours didn't have any. Fail. lol)!

I had a fire in my house just a few weeks ago. It was my fucking shower! I was in there, washing myself when I smelled smoke. So I looked over to the control box (electric shower) where my sponge was and there was smoke coming from it. I knocked it off and there's a flaming hole underneath it! So I get dressed, turn it off and go looking for a fire extinguisher. By the time I get back, the room is filled so badly with smoke that you physically couldn't see.

Long story short, the fire brigade came, put it out before any real damage happened and now my bathroom is destroyed with soot and scorch marks.

intense story on this one. at first i thought it was just an ashtray inverted or something, captured on the street. upon reading the story, i kind of got the chills. really nice perspective and use of leading line. glad you guys were safe too!

but this also works, and looks cool :]

Yeah, it's not that I like what I could see but it's reality and reality is something that catches my eye. And it's the story behind what let my eye come back to your photo - but im my mind there arise other pictures, overlay and "push" the photo, which nearly becomes an own experience at the end. So the artwork is the combination of photo and story - which captivates me!

I love this image. I think it really presents a sense of fear- the capability of fire, and the damage it leaves in it's wake. It reminds me of advertisments that the Fire Service use as warnings.
It is wonderful. Well done. x
