In the future people make fleshes that are not shaped like themselves. You might think that goes against the laws of survival, but change has always been a part of our natural history. Staying the same forever would require maximally extreme change. So since change is a part of us, why not steer it in a preferred direction?
In that same future, respect for the past is more important than ever. It's important to make space for your progenitors and pass that moral on to any life you create so that they in turn make space for you. Without this respect, intelligent life would have to limit itself to one shape for fear of conflict between lifeforms.
Strictly speaking only polite respect is necessary, but wholehearted love is more satisfying.
