they kill the lighting and depth. it makes the piece look flat, less detailed, and messy and disfigured. They also mess up the perspectives and whatnot. i just dont like em. ever.

The blocky distortion the the upper right kinda throws me off...but I commend you for using purple, as its the prefered color of transvestites who walk around in Baltimore city...but you used it right.
Did you use a stock as a displacement map or something? It's a pretty cool integration with the render
