"Looks like we're late anyways, the yard's empty!", Mira exclaimed as her mom's MPV finally rolled up to the school after overcoming the worst traffic jam it's seen in a while.

Mommy dearest responds: "Ah, well...Alright, I'll park and help you two out of the car and you take it from here, I'm off to work after this. By the way, did the school finally get around to setting up that ramp thing?"

“No I don’t think”, Janis interjects. “The construction of a new conference hall and some renovation work on the gym must’ve distracted them from that.”

Mira’s mother emits a mildly exasperated sigh, puts the car’s engine to rest and proceeds to assist her two crippled passengers out of it. Once that was taken care of, Mira and Janis thank her for the ride before locomoting to their classroom as quickly as possible. Along the way, Janis complains: “Ugh, you’d think I’d have an easier time with this crutch! Might’ve as well been crawling instead for all the good that would’ve done me!”

“If crawling really is your idea of fun, I have a skateboard I keep in my room for when I can’t be fucked to get on this wheelie right here!”, Mira jokingly suggested.

Janis scoffed at the idea: “You can keep it, I never had much luck with anything that isn’t a bicycle as a kid”, to then add: “The stylist thing I’ve been doing has helped me save up for a fake leg, should be able to grab it later this month or the next!”

Before Mira could congratulate her former bully for her future investment in a prosthetic, the duo finally reached the much dreaded steps that stand between them and the classroom. “Uh, you go first!”, Janis proposed.

“Are you having a laugh? There’s no one else around to push me up!”

“I will. Trust me, I have a plan for that.”

“Well look at that, Janis of all people is asking me to trust her!”

“Mira, now is not a good time for this! Listen up…”

“Whatevs, go on.”

“You position yourself up the steps as if to roll up it while I sit on the floor and keep you steady with my leg holding your chair’s backrest. Flawless plan, right?”

“This is the dumbest shit I’ve heard this week, and it’s only Monday!”

“The question isn’t whether or not it’s the dumbest shit you’ve ever heard but whether or not we have any other option!”

“I, uh, well…Okay, you win. So, are we gonna apply that strat of yours now or what?”

“Apply what? Actually nevermind, let’s get this over with!”

And so Mira and Janis proceed with the latter’s seemingly silly plan. They both take their respective positions with Mira shifting her weight backwards to help clear the first step while a sitting Janis keeps her from falling over and provides extra forward momentum with her leg up and foot against the backrest. Mira then repeats that process with the second and final step while looking over her shoulder out of worry that Janis’s foot might slip and undo all of their efforts in an embarrassing and potentially harmful fashion. Her fears thankfully did not come to pass as she found herself past the steps and safely on her four wheels. She then maneuvers around to face Janis and waits for her to get herself stood up on her crutch. “Okay, I’ve done this before, I should do just fine now…”, Janis whispered to herself.

And before she knew it, she absent-mindedly hit the second step with her toe on her way to Mira, causing her to lose her footing and falling over Mira and sending the two tumbling backwards on the wheelchair, barely managing to keep their heads from hitting the floor with quick thinking and the mere strength of their arms, resulting in them being stuck in a position so awkward as to make Mira blush uncontrollably and actively avoid eye contact with Janis. “Get…Off…Me!”, a visibly flushed and audibly miffed Mira utters at Janis.

Janis retorts: “So much for teamwork…Maybe you should call for help, that way we might be lucky enough to catch the class at all!”

“Oh you are sooooo smart! Very good thinking indeed!”, Mira sarcastically snaps back.

“Will you call for help or are we gonna wait until one of us gets badly hurt?”

“Fine, fine!”, Mira conceded before clearing her throat in preparation for screaming at the top of her lungs: “HELLLOOOOOOOOOO, ANYONE OUT THERE? SOMEHOW ONE OF US ENDED UP ON TOP OF THE OTHER AND WE’RE STUCK HERE!”

“Mira, what the fuck was that? Was that even English you just spoke?”

“If you were the one to call for help instead you would’ve sounded like you were losing your marbles too!”

“Try taking a deep breath next time you open your mouth to say anything out loud, you’d be amazed by the results-”

Their bickering was cut short by a fairly tall figure standing next to them. It was the assistant headmaster offering to help them out of the predicament they put themselves in while letting them in on the headmaster’s desire to have a word with them before letting them into the classroom.
