Fellow deviants, we are gathered here today to mourn the loss of the Nintendo eShop (the Wii U and 3DS versions).

I know, this is heart wrenching, but hear me out. Back before the Nintendo Switch, we had the 3DS and Wii U; consoles of nostalgia. Those two also had functionality access to Nintendo eShop, where we were able to obtain digital software. Some were eShop exclusives while others had physical copies (in some cases, different regions have physical copies of eShop exclusive software like Rhythm Heaven/Paradise Megamix having a physical release in Europe).

When we learned the eShop for both the 3DS and Wii U would discontinue in 2023, we must’ve felt devastated. We must’ve hated Nintendo for such an action (but hey, they’ve done other bad things like discontinue Miiverse for the Wii U and 3DS). Some of us must’ve endured the 5 stages of grief because of this.

We shouldn’t feel sad. We still have the Nintendo Switch and its eShop. Not to mention the hope for new ports. Various games for the Wii U and 3DS have been ported to the Switch. Some of them were also 3DS and Wii U exclusives. In the future, we might see one of our favourite Wii U/3DS eShop exclusive get a port on the Switch (maybe even Rhythm Heaven/Paradise Megamix). But for now, we must pay our respects to our beloved service.
