Description

A McDonnell Douglas Space Shuttle separates from its nuclear in-space counterpart after delivering a pair of cargo modules for shipment to deep space

These spacecraft are both huge, those cargo modules are basically MPLM-sized for scale

Note that the Shuttle orbiter could only approach the Nuclear Shuttle in this manner prior to its first firing. After reactor startup the aft end will continue to emit radiation for months, and the radiation shadow provided by the tank section would not be large enough to contain a docked Shuttle. Subsequent refueling and crew/cargo swaps would require a dedicated Orbital Maneuvering Vehicle small enough to fit in this radiation shadow

My NASA Nuclear Shuttle 3d model is available on CGTrader
