Description
Two Orion CEVs make up the mission stack for the Plymouth Rock in-situ asteroid mission. The second capsule provides extra living space and redundancy for Earth return (though later iterations of the design replaced it with a dedicated hab module built around Orion components).
Plymouth Rock was a mission concept by Lockheed Martin, using existing Constellation program systems (Orion, Ares) to carry out a low-effort crewed asteroid visit
Cool as this was, I'd be pretty nervous as an astronaut having to do a free-flying EVA over to that rock. It'd be nice if there was a set of legs that could be attached to the hab module or Orion so it could "land" (more like dock, really), like in the Orion Phobos mission study
