    “You said she was going to be okay.” Nathan said softly.

     I sighed. “Yes I did and never thought I would be so wrong. I am going to be kicking myself for a while on this so please, I don’t need you breathing down my neck on this too.”

    “You said she was going to be okay!” Nathan now yelled out at me. He stood up quickly and got into my face. “You let that woman get away with killing her when it was our charge to protect her after feeding on her.” His voice is very challenging of my authority and power.

    I bit my bottom lip as anger filled me and I slapped Nathan in the face. “If you ever talk to me that way again, there will be far worse consequences other than a slap!” I warned him as I was fighting tears but I couldn’t hold them back. I had taught Nathan about respect among us as vampires. I told him that even he is my lover, he is still bound to the laws that the vampire console and mine. His tone of voice and the way he talked down to me was a direct challenge to my authority. Blood red tears fell from my eye as he hurt me without even knowing it.

    I didn’t wait for Nathan to respond or say anything more as I was now challenged by my love. I gathered my clothes and started walking back to the limo that was waiting for us. I was doing all I could to not be weeping from the pain I was feeling, the pain of letting a human die while I promised to take care of her, another vampire trying to take over and run me out of Bridgeport, and my lover and fledgling taking a challenging tone with me. This night went horribly wrong. It was meant for a night of love and pleasure. Now it’s nothing more than death, challenges, and pain. I didn’t care what Nathan did right now. All I wanted to do is go home and be left alone. I need to gather my thoughts make the next course of moves. Tomorrow night will not be fun but I have to look out for all vampires now that I was responsible for use coming out to the public.
