I don't need to read a book about how dangerous a bird can be, I do have a fear of them as it is, because of how much they can hurt

You can already play as a female character in Assassin's Creed Liberation.
And i doubt they would even care if you make them gay since a lot fan girls have already done pairings with Desmond and the others.

But what if some of them aren't gay? It's not right to make them gay if they aren't. Now if they are both straight and gay then that's fine but its not right to MAKE a character that ISN'T gay. Unless YOU made the character you have no right to change their personality and everything. It's like when parents try to make their kids be what THEY WANT when you don't want to be what they want. Think about it that way. I know when I finish my manga I WILL NOT tolerate gay shippings of my characters when they ARE NOT gay. I'm not against gays because I have a few characters that are gay but if someone made them straight when I did not, I would give hell to that person. Until you KNOW that they are gay DON'T. MAKE. THEM. GAY.
Again I have NOTHING against gays but I am against MAKING CHARACTERS THAT ARE NOT GAY GAY! It changes their personality and WHO THEY ARE. If being gay IS NOT part of their personality, DON'T MAKE THEM GAY.
Watch as my comment gets hailed stormed with hate from all they yaoi-shippers even though I'm not here to fight. Just saying what I think and I know I'm not the only one who thinks its annoying and wrong.

I get where you're coming from, but I'm going to respectfully disagree on the same principle: What if some of them aren't straight? If we're making the argument here that all characters need to follow their established sexualities -- which I can respect, though the canon should not dictate what people can and can't do in fandom (it's the fandom after all) -- you have to be positive that they are in fact straight. In most cases, sexuality doesn't actually come up in canon. That's why people take the liberty with it -- ambiguity is the fandom's friend. The fact is, if you are assuming that all characters are straight unless otherwise stated, then I think the problem here is you and not the shippers you're condemning.
I see you already got pissed off at someone for pointing out this flaw in your argument, but you can't deny that you actually said (I am quoting word for word; you can go look): "what if some of them aren't gay". You don't know if any of them are straight, gay, bisexual, pansexual, asexual, or any other sexuality that I didn't mention; you're getting mad at the artist for an idea that has yet to be confirmed anyways. There's no reason for you to bring up how much you hate yaoi shippers and their "straight person in gay relation"ships when none of the above characters have been confirmed as having any sexuality at all. Unless, of course, you're making that assumption that these characters are straight. Therefore, my theory is that you're just assuming that all characters are straight unless otherwise stated, which is more of your deal than everyone else's. If you're going to be one of those people that's a "stickler for the canon" and will rage against anyone who takes any artistic license with anything in a fandom, then you need to actually, y'know, follow the canon. You can't make any assumptions about anything, since you're policing everyone else for doing the same thing.
Funny enough, people disagreeing with you does not automatically mean they're "here to fight [you]". If you didn't want anyone to respectfully (or not so respectfully) disagree with your opinion, then you should not have posted the opinion in the first place.

GenZelda In reply to vintgecassette [2014-06-24 18:53:32 +0000 UTC]
Again I was stating my opinion. I was saying that we do not know if they are straight or gay and making them all gay because you want to is kinda childish if you ask me. But your right about the artist though. It's their art and I can't tell them they can't do it. But I know not all characters are straight thanks to anime/manga so I know its possible they aren't straight. It could be me but like I said, it just annoys me that people will just make them gay when they know they aren't that UNLESS its for fun or to be funny. If their serious about making them gay when they aren't then I have a problem but if its for fun and laughs then that's okay. I was just in an annoyed mood that day and was letting off steam through the comment I posted. I need to learn to control my anger..

.... But being gay is not "part of a personality"...? I mean I know plenty of gay dudes and they're about as varied as the straight dudes I know. Some are military men. Some manage night clubs and make deals with local mob bosses to keep their clubs "safer". Some dye their hair blonde, spend an hour curling it every morning, and obsess over their clothing and appearance while finishing their Ph.D. in developmental neurobiology. Some are pursuing graduate studies in fine arts and are some of the strictest and most demanding instructors instructors I've ever had. The fact that they're gay only surfaces when it comes to choosing whom to sleep with, or places in the world where they cannot go for fear of being executed because they dare to exist. I'm dating a bi guy. He works a 9-to-5 job, likes power tools and cooking, thinks fart jokes are hilarious, was at one point offered a recommendation letter from an officer who told him he'd make an excellent sniper for the armed forces (which he declined, and decided to not pursue a military career), and plays video games in his free time. There is literally no aspect to his personality that's somehow THE GAY PERSONALITY. He just happens to dig both sets of genitals, and at the current moment he happens to be dating someone who's got the opposite. But if someone was to decide to write a book about him, it would be completely not "wrong" to write about him meeting and banging a dude because a) he's into that and b) our relationships allows that.
I mean, there are some things I agree with you on when it comes to yaoi shippers. If a character has a canon interest in a female character and his entire storyline consists of doing things for her (or if they're married and established to be exclusive and deeply in love) then yes, it would go against a character's personality for him to suddenly act like she doesn't exist and begin pursuing a male character - but it would be just as weird if the "new love interest" was another female character. It's off not because OMG GAY but because it just goes against a character's previously-established system of beliefs.
The concept of the closet is so deeply ingrained in our culture (and by recent, properly-conducted estimates, 20% of the population falls into the LGBT+ spectrum and 17% on top of that identify as straight but have had same-sex sexual encounters). That's 2 out of every 5 characters that could potentially have same-sex sexual relations. "Straight" is considered to be the default, but how many mangas actually do ANYTHING to establish the character's sexuality? Aside from the ones that establish the LGBT+ identity, pretty much none. They just don't even handle it. So most of the characters? AREN'T actually straight. You just assumed they are. And statistically, your assumptions are probably grounded in reality, but... You just don't know, because it is very rare that you're given any real indication of straightness, and since most fictional worlds are unfortunately modelled on our own society, that leaves a good probability that quite a number of these characters are just in the closet, and that topic is assumed to be something that will never be approached.
I have a good number of characters who are LGB. Some of them are pretty damn deep in the closet about it. Like, wife-and-kids deep. And, I honestly don't care if someone bends their sexuality, as long as they do it with good writing and believable explanations. I'm by no means a yaoi fan (I find most of it to be wildly inaccurate when it comes to depicting real gay relationships) but I've seen some FANTASTIC fan fiction that bent sexualities and served as a powerful exploration of character and coming to terms with one's own identity, all within parameters established by the original work. As with all things, 90% of fan fiction is written by people who are just starting to write and don't quite have a handle on how to go about it. Playing with sexualities is a non-offence on the list of offences they can commit when it comes to writing a believable character.

Well, I hung on to the parts about "having nothing against gay people" and "I have some gay characters" and thought maybe it was just a small misunderstanding that a bit of humanization + research statistics would help (as I have seen in the past), but I guess not.
But, yeah, "fighting" was never the goal. I have no intention of fighting with homophobes over anything other than what they do to other people. They can hang on to their backwards beliefs so long as they have no power to hurt another person. ^^

Your wrong about the "not offending anyone" part. I wasn't talking about character that we don't know if they're gay or not I was talking about characters that we KNOW what their into. Jeez, I can't believe I waisted 5 mins reading your post when it had NOTHING to do with what I was talking about. Sure, characters we don't know what their into is fine but if you know their married or have a girl friend then they shouldn't mess with their sexualities. Its WRONG and sickening. Also, I do get offened when I see yaoi of characters that are married or have a girl friend. I would bring hell to anyone who messed with my characters. And like I said, I'm not here to fight and your comment tells me to fight and I wont so please just leave me alone.

Always thought the same but crazy fangirls will always be crazy fangirls. They think they have to turn everything and everyone gay to please themselves. It's pretty damn annoying but whatever floats their boat.
