Every year, on every anniversary since she was shot, Barbra Gordon takes out the old costume of Batgirl from behind the secret panel she kept in the clock tower. Often times she wondered why she still kept the costume. It's not like she could ever wear it. At least not yet, Bruce, Tim, Richard and Alfred would say. One day they will find a cure for her. One day she will race down the rooftops alongside her fellow Bat Family relatives. One day it will be like she never spent a day sitting in the chair.
Barbra appreciated the words but did not get her hopes up. It wasn't like she felt any less of herself in the wheelchair, anyway. Sure there were hard times, but the fact that she had adjusted to it proved how strong she was. And even though she doesn't take down thugs anymore that strength proved that she was still Batgirl. And that realization made Barbra finally understand why she kept the suit. Because in some ways, in the important ways, she was still the Woman behind The Bat.
The years would pass by considerably before a fateful encounter with a grateful certain Sorcerer of Order have Barbra mobility again, and allowed her to properly succeed as the new Commissioner Gordon of Neo Gotham. But even though her main office is now at GPD she still keeps the clock tower. And just as it served her well to aid the Dark Knight years before, it serves just as well to aid the Knight of Tomorrow now.
