Description
You follow along with White as she explains this “game” to you and it all seems rather childish. Honestly, you’re not too interested in getting cozy with complete strangers and you look for a way to untie yourself. You notice a fellow dexholder sitting by himself and tell White you have been wanting to talk to him, so she lets you go. In truth, you hardly know the redhead from the Johto region, but if he is smart enough not to engage in this game, you already deem him a cut above the others. No offense to White, but this just isn’t your thing.“Be sure to drop by later! We’re in the large hall second on the left from here,” White calls as she walks off, and you make a mental note of it in case you get real bored later.
So, you walk up to this boy. You know his name is Silver and he’s 4 years your senior, even though he doesn’t look the part, but that is pretty much all. He doesn’t look too sociable, and you hesitate, but what else are you going to do?
“Um, hey there Silver,” you try.
He looks up as if from a daze and seems taken aback. “Do I know you?”
Talk about rude! You’re quite sure you’ve met the boy before at your initiation ceremony; you may not have been formally introduced, but he should at least recognise your face.
“Um, it’s _____? One of the new Dexholders?”
Only now he looks you in the eye, his steel colour piercing straight through you. He sighs.
“I don’t remember ever speaking to you.”
Well, this was just going swimmingly. You best get straight to the point then, if he’s going to be disagreeable all evening you can at least still catch up to White.
“You can sit here alone with a sour face all evening, I won’t stop you. I just thought that you might have a little more sense in you than everyone playing the kiss-a-stranger game.”
Swiftly ignoring the first part of your statement he replies: “You’re not joining in? I thought you were best friends with White. She organises the thing, you know.”
“So first you’re pretending you don’t know me and now you know who I’m friends with? That’s a little suspicious if you ask me.”
You smile cunningly as Silver looks away with a huff. The faint redness you notice on his cheeks makes it even better.
“But no, I think that making you feel awkward is much more fun than whatever they have planned.”
Slowly, again, he turns his head to face you. He wants to snap at you and you feel it, but he can’t find the words.
“It’s okay to be nice to me too, you know. I might even return the favour.”
“Shut up,” he says, but he smiles at you. “You’re almost as annoying as Gold, but at least you’re not as stupid.”
You know who Gold is, and decide to take it as a compliment. You’ve seen the two of them at the ceremony, bickering like some old married couple. You could tell Silver was fond of him, or at least fond of hating him.
“I’m going to need another drink to survive this evening. You too?”
“Sure, sure.”
He pulls at your wrist roughly and you stumble off your chair, almost falling against him, but steadying yourself just in time. You could feel his warmth and swore you felt your heart rise in the moment.
“You didn’t think I was going to get it for you, were you?” Another smirk.
You think you’re making progress, and if you didn’t know better, you’d say you were falling in love.
