Description
This is the first time I've actually planned out a family for my characters. In order:Hannah Bernard and Garret's mother. She's very kind and tries to be helpful, but its difficult for her to understand certain things, and it tends to get on people's nerves. She also has a loud nasal laugh.
Frank Bernard and Garret's father. He's a war veteran, and constantly reminds his sons of how things could be worse whenever they complain. He acts disappointed in Bernard, and it always seems like he prefers Garret. Bernard, consequently, feels like he can never gain his father's approval (Bernard is a songwriter, Garret is running for senator). Family reunions are awkward affairs. Frank played baseball when he was younger, never professionally, but he was pretty good.
Suk-Chul and Hye Su Gina's Parents. Her father is an immigrant from Korea; her mother is a second generation Korean. Her father is a bit more traditional, and every now and then, there's a conflict over Gina being an "American Girl". Gina's mother is more supportive, but quiet and shy, unless she feels particularly strongly about something. She refuses to be trampled. They have two sons, not drawn, in addition to Gina, one older than her, and one younger. Their older son is a CEO of a generic company, existing only for storytelling purposes; he's married and has three children. Their younger son, Kevin, just recently became a lawyer. He isn't married or dating anyone. He feels he has time, and isn't ready to settle down. Kevin can turn invisible and visible as he pleases, including partial invisibility, unlike Gina, who is only invisible. Their older brother is not invisible.
Mary Garret's wife. She's an eighth grade biology teacher. She gets depressed (not clinical depression) at times, and sees a psychologist for it, but appears outwardly cheerful. She isn't suicidal, and she describes it as when you're having a bad day, but every day. Garret and her kids try to help, but sometimes it isn't enough. She loves her family very much.
Garret Bernard's older brother. Imagine two guys in a bar. Guy A is already a little drunk, B had a bad day and is staring into his drink. A is trying to cheer up B, but isn't helping, and is oblivious to his ineffectiveness. This is Garret and his brother. They have a good family bond, but have trouble understanding each other, which is made worse by Bernard's self-esteem issues and conflict with his father. Garret is a government official in one of those positions no one really thinks about until they show up on the news, but as soon as the channel changes, you've forgotten them again. He's running for senator though. His political style is best compared to Harry Truman.
Bernard The star of our show. He is a songwriter for film soundtracks. He met Gina backstage when they were working. They've been together since then. He has self esteem issues because; a, his father fails to show approval; b, his brother is more successful than he is; c, Gina is more successful than he is. He tries not to let anyone know about his inferiority issues, since he doesn't want to worry anyone. He really does love Gina. When they first started dating, her invisibility was a bit unnerving, but he's come to accept it.
Gina The other star of the show. Gina is invisible, she was born like that. She cannot turn visible. From a very young age, she was very outspoken to prevent being overlooked or bullied. She started wearing gloves in school (if you need to ask a question, raise your hand. where's your hand?) and has worn gloves ever since. Even in summer, she'll wear gloves. She'll also wear earrings, so that you can tell where she's facing. She isn't vain, but she is conscious of what she wears, mostly because that's what people see. She has difficulty understanding other people's emotions, but she does try. Gina's pretty close with her younger brother. Kevin, but more distant to her older brother, who, as an angsty teenager, isolated himself and never got past that. She's a little taller than Bernard, but the difference is more dramatic since she wears heels. She is a successful actress, in horror and sci-fi, but has done voice acting for animated movies.
George, Jennifer and Arnold George is the oldest; he's in sixth grade. He's a little shy. He wants to be a writer when he grows up. Jennifer is in fourth grade. She's quiet, but not out of shyness; she's also very observant. Doesn't really have a sense of humor, and a lot of jokes fall flat. She likes her Barbie dolls and video games. Arnold is in pre-k. He very kind and sweet, but he's just an average pre-k kid.
Jonathan Like Kevin, Jonathan can turn invisible and visible as he wants. He tries to impress people with his partial invisibility, as in, making his skin invisible, but leaving muscle and bone visible, but most of the time, it upsets them. He likes Halloween, since everyone's pretty ok with exposed flesh on Halloween. He loves his parents very much and they are a happy family.

I'm just picturing her as a child raising her hand for 20+ minutes before thinking of gloves.
