I always thought it made sense for Casey not to be too jacked up. Like, in the 1990 movie and the original comics, he was clearly really strong and athletic, but wasn't totally 'roided up or anything. Strong but agile.

I also wanted to get away from him being primarily hockey themed, which I think happens these days mainly because of the mask. So I wanted to add some other elements from other sports, some used and easily accessible equipment from baseball and football and stuff. Specifically protective gear that's pretty easy to move in, because he's still a "normal" guy in a world of mutants and ninjas and other strangeness. And I figured he'd have some cobbled together weapons from various sports equipment kind of loosely inspired by the ninja gear he's surrounded by lately, with a Casey twist.
