Description Heinz Dörmer (Jan 8, 1912-Sept 28, 1998) was persecuted and arrested multiple times by the Nazis, being sent to both prisons and concentration camps. His presence in the film Paragraph 175 always stuck with me, as he appeared broken and haunted by his experiences, while simultaneously happy and wistful when thinking of the past before his persecution. In his younger days he ran a youth group that tried to remain independent but was forced to join the Hitler Youth. Like many gay victims of the Holocaust, the fall of the Third Reich was not the end of his troubles, as he was kept in prison for being gay instead of being released like other categories of concentration camp prisoners. For the rare few that spoke out after the war, I have created both a portrait of them in the days of WWII, and later as an adult. #pinktriangleportraits #rosawinkel #heinzdörmer #gayart #lgbtart #holocaust #holocaustmemorial #internationalholocaustremembranceday
