Description

So while I have been working away at the Olympians, they haven't been the only characters I've been working on. I've been putting a lot thought into updating the rest of TW's current roster of enemies and supporting characters as prep for the eventual comic stuff. Right now, the focus is on the big names, and one in particular that has been on my mind a lot is Nemo Oudeis.

A frequent reaction to him has been that he basically looked like Neo in "The Matrix Reloaded." And while I did not specifically base his look on Neo and more on a broad idea of stern badasses in longcoats wearing sunglasses, it still annoyed me. So for a long time I've been trying to figure out how to update Nemo to not resemble Neo. The problem? I liked his look. It's hard to try and change something if you are very enamored with it.

So I struggled with it for a while. In the end, I decided I wasn't going to tremendously alter the longcoat - just add some extra visual flair to it. But even with that, he still basically looked like a Neo-clone. And I was about ready to accept that and just live with the comparisons when I remembered a little scene from "The Usual Suspects," where Verbal Kint goes on about what he knows of Keyser Soze's origins. There's a shot toward the end of the flashback's depiction of Keyser walking away from a burning structure, and I realized a major part of the comparison to Neo was the clean shaven, short dark hair look with the sunglasses. And since I have considered Nemo to have originated and operated in the Mediterranean region, I thought it would make sense to make him look like he's from a Southern European or North African nation. So I added the longer hair and a beard with some stubble, which really went a long way to enhance his look.

The last major addition is the quasi-0 shaped sigil on his forehead, another detail to add to his distinctiveness, and the only visible clue as to Nemo Oudeis' true nature.

Working on Nemo also put me in mind about stories featuring him and the significance of his antagonism toward Thunder Woman. I'm looking forward to putting that down and giving him a more fleshed out role beyond what I've already put out there.

Here's his previous version, for comparison:

Anyway, hope you all enjoyed this, and stay tuned for more!
