I know, it's a bizarre combination (as Thana93 rightly described), but if I may elaborate on this a little, I think that those two worlds have even more in common than just this one scene, where you can put a little girl next to her giant monster companion - Arya could easily be a character of one of the Hayao Miyazaki's master works, she is as brave and tough as any of his fearless heroines. If in her journey through the Martin's world Nymeria could still accompany her, they would've been like San and her wolf pack in "Mononoke-hime", but here I gave her a face similar to Chihiro's from "Spirited Away", because her stay in the House of Black and White remind me of Chihiro's in the Yubaba's bathhouse - they both have to give up their names and identities and work to build themself up from scratch (and Chihiro also manages to get a quite strapping friend of ambiguous morality, whom she teaches humanity). Sandor here, however, has features, which Miyazaki usually gives to his negative characters (like Gonzo in "Mononoke-hime", Dola and her sons in "Laputa...", Kurotowa in "Nausicaa...", Yubaba's three green heads in "Spirited Away", etc.) but because his villains are never entirely black (as positive figures - only white, for which, among others, I love his stories so much), and at the end they usually meet with some form of redemption, I think they fits our perturbed Hound perfectly.

Wonderful explanation. I noticed the connection to Spirited Away immediately, and I actually thought at first it was a take on that film (the scene where Chihiro and No-Face are waiting for the train), and only later realized it was actually Totoro!
I agree also about the Hound, he'd be such a great Miyazaki 'villain'. Ahh, I love Miyazaki films sooo much, and crossing it with ASoIaF is so unexpected, yet it feels so right.
