Absolutely stunning dichotomy you've captured here.

Thank you!! It's rather subtle as well. I love that the poses of the two figures match each other.

This needs to be a dd. Why is this not a dd?

I agree, but unfortunately, it won't be eligible until 21 April 2016. See, each artist is only eligible for a DD once every six months, and burningmonk did have a piece featured as a DD 21 October 2015: Depth .
However, you're more than welcome to send a suggestion in April to the Street Photography CV: FAQ #18: Who selects Daily Deviations and how are they chosen? .

I'm sure it's a bit 'better' here but how much better homelessness can be is a stretch. I have never been homeless but I imagine that on top of the physical hardships (cold, hunger, disease, lack of hygiene) perhaps the most painful aspect is the feeling of being discarded by society; being alone with no one to turn to. I think this aspect must be the same as it is anywhere on earth.

Yeah, that's true. I was just thinking of some specific examples of laws passes in certain parts of the States are are very obviously aimed at the homeless (no sleeping in cars after dark, no sitting on sidewalks ect.). Obviously, being homeless is incredibly difficult, and I think a lot of Americans view homelessness as the products of a person's actions, rather than them being a victim of the society we live in. I was just wondering how homelessness is viewed over there.

Ah, I understand. It's a little tough here but there are no major laws aimed at the homeless as far as I can tell. They tend to live in urban centers and they build shanties. I think if there were laws, they would get shooed away.

Me too. I don't usually take pictures of homeless people but this one simultaneously mirrored and contrasted the poster so I couldn't resist.
