My previous art of these two gave me an idea.

Since Mephiles saved Infinite's life by taking him home and patching him up, Infinite now owes him a life debt. This frustrates Infinite greatly, but he respects it, and sticks around until he can repay the debt. Of course Mephiles is immortal, so he may never be in mortal danger, but he doesn't tell Infinite that he's immortal so that Infinite is stuck with him until he can properly reform him like he was reformed himself.

Over time, Infinite begins to like being around the Shadow-Lookalike, not that he'd admit it to anyone.

Mephiles takes classes at the local community college to learn more about the world and to feel more like a normal citizen, and Infinite tends to go with him to the coffee shops and cafes that he studies at.

Infinite and Mephiles belong to SEGA.
