Kai is a social person. He wants people to think highly, or at least favorably, of him, he's quite the people pleaser, generally trying do and say things he thinks others would like. Luckily for him, has a keen sense of peoples emotions and can pick up on signs [or read a room] rather easily. His perceptiveness extends to being very observant of his surroundings. Little escapes his notice, even if he doesn't acknowledge it. Though, Kai isn't the most honest guy- in fact, he's rather insincere. He tends to put his best foot forward, after all, doesn't everyone? So what if he embellishes his most attractive traits, or says things he believes others want to hear, even if its the farthest thing from the truth? Despite being very neighborly, many of his relationships lack deeper meaning, or emotional ties- and its, for the most part, Kai's fault. His aloof behavior tends to hold him back when it comes to making real friends. This callousness specifically shows up in his self serving attitude. As personable as he is, he tends to put himself first. He, on occasion, unintentionally uses others for his own gain.

While he is ultimately self serving, he tries his best to give back. He likes to be a part of a community, and finds enjoyment in helping others. He can have his cake and eat it too, as he truly does derive fulfillment from lending a hand to others, but he has the added benefit of appearing more benevolent then he may be. Although Kai may not always appear to be the most well mannered guy out there- in fact he may appear the exact opposite, as he's rather mischievous, taking pleasure in some low stakes trouble. He never intends to harm or upset anyone in any way, but it doesn't mean he won't be annoying in the mean time. Regardless, respect and politeness are very important to him. When shown respect, he will give equal amounts back. Despite being a rough around the edges sort of guy, he is extremely tolerant of other's shenanigans. His patients knows no bounds as he's overall good natured and level headed, and can keep his cool under pressure.

Kai is very impulsive, a 'go with the flow' kind of person. He tends not to plan very far ahead, and does things on a whim. He thinks fast on his feet, and can make makes spur of the moment decisions, but this also means that he can be reckless and doesn't often think his decisions thru thoroughly. This may make him seem wishy-washy but he is extremely devoted and hard working on things he finds important. He finds it rather rewarding when he finds and becomes invested in a project or relationship worth sticking to. His love and loyalty are hard earned, but even harder lost.

On the other hand fairness and respect are things Kai is passionate about- at least when it comes to his own skewed moral code. His self serving, and hypocritical side comes out most noticeably when it comes to things such as this. He doesn't see anything wrong with judging others based on his own sense of right and wrong, but things are clearly set in his own favor, such as he doesn't chide himself for taking advantage of others, but he finds those destroying nature without a care as condemnable. When faced with people who he feels are reprehensible, he becomes quite petty and resentful- whether they know it or not. Its hard to genuinely upset him, but he's the type that holds a grudge. Once someone has hit this level of annoyance with him, he writes them out of his life almost completely, given the circumstances.

Ashley was only 19 when she had he first child, a young bright eyed boy she named Kai. Ashley was kind and soft spoken, but most noticeably had a sort of charm about her that lit up any room. As an infant, Kai was often entranced by his mother's beautiful singing and warm smile. Although they were happy, the two lived paycheck to paycheck in a cramped apartment in a small, but lively town near the coast. What the town lacked in finesse it made up for in personality. The cozy diner Kai's mother worked at was a vintage burger joint on the pier, with red glossy seats, checkered tile floors, and bright neon signs. The only down side to the job was the hours- she worked from mid-day to well into the night regularly. Luckily for the pair, Kai was often baby sat by their elderly neighbors, Martha and George.

Martha was sugary sweet, while George- despite his gruff exterior- was a laid back man. Kai looked up to the two of them, much like he would if they were his biological grandparents. During the day they would take the energetic boy out to get some sun, the usual haunts for the trio were the community garden and the small swimming pool behind the apartment. Before learning how to swim, Kai's favorite thing to do was help George in the garden. More specifically, he enjoyed watching George garden, while he chewed on some fresh fruits and vegetables.

At the age of 5, Kai was enrolled in school. He made friends quickly and easily with his personable and outgoing nature. Shortly after school started, his Totem began to make itself known, he was both confused and excited. Seeing that it was a Psyduck, Martha began giving him real swimming lessons, which he caught on to quickly. Roughly a year later, his first brush with hardship came in the form of Martha's passing. With it, she left him her favorite necklace- a beautiful golden leaf. It became his most treasured item, even to this day. Though Kai didn't understand the finality of death, he could tell that whatever it was, it was serious, and that it made his heart hurt.

Things continued as they did previously, just without Martha. When Kai was 7 his mother brought home a tall, intimidating man- Daniel, was what she called him. Right off the bad, Kai didn't get along well with him. He was stern and scary. Kai, who was used to being babied, didn't like this guy and certainly didn't see why his mother wanted to be friends with him. Kai spent most of his days out of the house, usually with George in the community garden, or with his friends at the beach. The more time Daniel spent at the apartment, the less Kai wanted to be there. His resentment towards the intruder only grew stronger when his mother sat him down and informed him that Daniel had invited to two to live with him in the near by city. He begged his mother restlessly, but his pleadings fell on deaf ears. By the end of the year he found himself feeling betrayed and in a strange house where it was he, who was now the intruder.

Kai did not like nor did he agree with the way his life was unfolding, so he became withdrawn. He continued to do well in school, both academically and socially. But he no longer emotionally engage himself with others, functioning more in a passive or observant capacity. Upon adopting his new role, Kai began to understand people and their actions more, and by the time he entered the 5th grade, he began using others for his own benefit.

His mother and Daniel married that year, and soon after, they welcomed their first child together- a red faced, screaming boy they named Finn. Kai didn't like the baby, he was noisy and seemed to throw things a lot. Begrudgingly, Kai helped take care of the house while his mother was busy with the baby, but only because he wanted his mother to remember he was the good child. Throughout the year, Kai was the picture perfect child, and as a reward. Daniel let him dig up a part of the back yard to start a small vegetable garden. His mother often sat out with him, baby perched in her lap, singing songs Kai could faintly remember hearing as a baby himself. By the time Finn was 1, Kai found himself rather fond of the rowdy infant.

Things mellowed out soon after, things returned to normal. The only moderately interesting event in Kai's life were the occasional letter he would receive from George. In his letters, Kai told the old man about how he was doing, about his little brother and about his new garden. He sent the occasional photo along with his letters, and would eagerly await a reply. When George wrote back he sent a packet of seeds, yellow lilies, his late wife's favorite. Kai planted and monitored them religiously. He took care to ensure George was kept up to date on how the flower were progressing. Taking care of his small garden sparked new life into Kai, to which his parents took notice. Daniel silently supported this while his mother took a much more active approach and fiercely supported his reignited passion.

By this time, Kai was rather pleased with his life, but his parents had one last announcement. He was getting another sibling. They were a bit hesitant with his last reaction, and so was he. Kai loved his brother, but the sleepless nights wasn't something he was eager about reliving- but with the help of George and his mothers reassurance, he was optimistic. When his sister was born the following summer, Kai adored her immediately. Her large round eyes and bubbly squeals put his concerns to rest. She was the exact opposite of Finn, where he was restless and fussy, she was happy and sweet.

A year later, Kai received his last letter from George- the letter told him about a town- Raccolto- within a cluster of islands. He wrote that he and Martha had visited once, and had planned on moving there in their old age, but never had the opportunity. He suggested Kai do some research on the beautiful islands if wanted someplace nice to grow some plants. Kai wrote back that he would definitely look into the town and that he appreciated George pointing him in the right direction. A couple of weeks later, the letter was returned unopened. Kai learned of George's passing a week later thru a letter from his niece. Kai was devastated.

His second year of high school was just as difficult as the first- not because of anything new, but he was still having a hard time overcoming the pain of George's death. His mother wasn't sure how to address his sadness, but Daniel, who up until this point Kai only just barely liked, stepped up to help. He spent time with Kai in the yard as well as gave Kai a bigger area to expand his garden. Daniel created two small wooden statues, one of a Dewgong and the other as an Alakazam for Kai to place with the yellow lilies. After properly mourning their passing, Kai was able to start healing. He knew he wouldn't have been able to do anything about it, but he had always regretted not being there for George's passing- he owed the man so much, but being able to have an area in memoriam of the two people who inspired him so much, was therapeutic.

From then on, Kai and Daniel began to see one another in a different light. Daniel saw the vulnerability in Kai- despite his normal obnoxious self, and Kai saw the kindness in Daniel's usual stern nature. As Kai entered his 3rd year of high school, Daniel sat him down, in his lap was a small, but relatively thick hard cover book. Daniel cracked the book open to glossy pages full of stamps- a collection of stamps. He told Kai that he had inherited it from his father, and, in due time, wanted to pass it on to Kai himself. He showed the boy some of his favorites and the flipped thru the book for hours. It was heart warming for Kai to be accepted by his step-father like this. He knew the man could've kept this book- this heirloom- for his own biological children, but the fact he was the one who would receive it was touching.

During his last year of high school, Kai nervously approached his parents about his future goals- he wanted to be a farmer. His parents were understandably skeptical, but were willing to hear him out. He had a friend who's cousins lived on a farm and were willing to give him some advice, and if things went well, maybe even let him work there over the summer. He told them how he dreamed about moving out to Raccolto eventually. He had done some research, and found that many of the islands were perfect for farming, and that it had always been a goal of his since George mentioned it a few years ago. After lots of discussion, his parents decided that they would help him if he was able to get some experience with farming before having his heart set on the profession.

After graduation, Kai was able to get a job at his friend's farm. It was a big change from the life he was used too, but he enjoyed it all the same. The hard work and dedication that was needed was incredibly fulfilling and Kai only loved the idea of living on a farm more. Instead of spending a mere summer, Kai ended up working there for a couple of years. With the encouragement of the farm owner, he collected his courage and decided he was finally ready to start his own farm. With the experience he gained, and knowledge he received, he told his parents that he was ready to go independent. He spent the next year working with Daniel in a stuffy office to both earn extra money and to put his parents' concerns to rest over the certainty of his dream. Although he put his best foot forward, and gave the desk job a genuine try, he found it incredibly suffocating and stifling. His only saving grace that year was his small garden- which, with his new knowledge was thriving- and his siblings, who never failed to make him smile. The following year, he bought a ticket to Raccolto as soon as he could to checked the place out himself, in person. He spoke with the locals and got a feel for the land. The place was absolutely beautiful, and just as awe inspiring as the brochures claimed, the feeling of connecting to the land was incredible, and deeply refreshing. With the help of his parents- a late graduation gift they said- Kai was able to purchase a plot of land on the island of Amusement Archipelago.

Now, Kai couldn't be happier than where he is today. He reflects on how the kindness and patience of others has helped him realize and achieve his goals, and hopes to continue the cycle by helping others when they are in need. He is excited to start a wonderful life as part of this booming community doing what he loves.

She was the exact opposite of Finn, where he was restless and fussy, she was happy and sweet.

A year later, Kai received his last letter from George- the letter told him about a town- Raccolto- within a cluster of islands. He wrote that he and Martha had visited once, and had planned on moving there in their old age, but never had the opportunity. He suggested Kai do some research on the beautiful islands if wanted someplace nice to grow some plants. Kai wrote back that he would definitely look into the town and that he appreciated George pointing him in the right direction. A couple of weeks later, the letter was returned unopened. Kai learned of George's passing a week later thru a letter from his niece. Kai was devastated.

His second year of high school was just as difficult as the first- not because of anything new, but he was still having a hard time overcoming the pain of George's death. His mother wasn't sure how to address his sadness, but Daniel, who up until this point Kai only just barely liked, stepped up to help. He spent time with Kai in the yard as well as gave Kai a bigger area to expand his garden. Daniel created two small wooden statues, one of a Dewgong and the other as an Alakazam for Kai to place with the yellow lilies. After properly mourning their passing, Kai was able to start healing. He knew he wouldn't have been able to do anything about it, but he had always regretted not being there for George's passing- he owed the man so much, but being able to have an area in memoriam of the two people who inspired him so much, was therapeutic.

From then on, Kai and Daniel began to see one another in a different light. Daniel saw the vulnerability in Kai- despite his normal obnoxious self, and Kai saw the kindness in Daniel's usual stern nature. As Kai entered his 3rd year of high school, Daniel sat him down, in his lap was a small, but relatively thick hard cover book. Daniel cracked the book open to glossy pages full of stamps- a collection of stamps. He told Kai that he had inherited it from his father, and, in due time, wanted to pass it on to Kai himself. He showed the boy some of his favorites and the flipped thru the book for hours. It was heart warming for Kai to be accepted by his step-father like this. He knew the man could've kept this book- this heirloom- for his own biological children, but the fact he was the one who would receive it was touching.

During his last year of high school, Kai nervously approached his parents about his future goals- he wanted to be a farmer. His parents were understandably skeptical, but were willing to hear him out. He had a friend who's cousins lived on a farm and were willing to give him some advice, and if things went well, maybe even let him work there over the summer. He told them how he dreamed about moving out to Raccolto eventually. He had done some research, and found that many of the islands were perfect for farming, and that it had always been a goal of his since George mentioned it a few years ago. After lots of discussion, his parents decided that they would help him if he was able to get some experience with farming before having his heart set on the profession.

After graduation, Kai was able to get a job at his friend's farm. It was a big change from the life he was used too, but he enjoyed it all the same. The hard work and dedication that was needed was incredibly fulfilling and Kai only loved the idea of living on a farm more. Instead of spending a mere summer, Kai ended up working there for a couple of years. With the encouragement of the farm owner, he collected his courage and decided he was finally ready to start his own farm. With the experience he gained, and knowledge he received, he told his parents that he was ready to go independent. He spent the next year working with Daniel in a stuffy office to both earn extra money and to put his parents' concerns to rest over the certainty of his dream. Although he put his best foot forward, and gave the desk job a genuine try, he found it incredibly suffocating and stifling. His only saving grace that year was his small garden- which, with his new knowledge was thriving- and his siblings, who never failed to make him smile. The following year, he bought a ticket to Raccolto as soon as he could to checked the place out himself, in person. He spoke with the locals and got a feel for the land. The place was absolutely beautiful, and just as awe inspiring as the brochures claimed, the feeling of connecting to the land was incredible, and deeply refreshing. With the help of his parents- a late graduation gift they said- Kai was able to purchase a plot of land on the island of Amusement Archipelago.

Now, Kai couldn't be happier than where he is today. He reflects on how the kindness and patience of others has helped him realize and achieve his goals, and hopes to continue the cycle by helping others when they are in need. He is excited to start a wonderful life as part of this booming community doing what he loves.
