As the early Friday morning sunlight streamed in through the windows of Ethan's inner-city apartment, he sat at his dining table watching videos of his favourite illusionists performances. From a young age, long before he knew he wanted to be a magician himself, he would spend all of his spare time watching magicians perform, on TV, videos, and on the very rare occasion, live on stage. Up until his teens, he still believed that what he was seeing was real but as he grew older, he came to understand that it was all a show and that it was something that he could do too. Even now as a grown adult, he still liked to watch other magicians, it reminded him of how he felt about magic when he was younger. This feeling of nostalgia continued to fuel his passion for the artform and watching a mix of the classics and modern greats inspired him to continue working on his own shows and improve, despite the heights that his career had reached.

He sat back in the soft dining room chair, his feet up on the adjacent chair, and pressed play on the next video. This one was his favourite and, to him, the greatest illusion performance of all time. It was the Death Saw by David Copperfield, Ethan's idol. He watched, enraptured, as the famous magician was shackled to the large metal table, ready to begin his famously unsuccessful escape from the blade. His heart began to pound as the deadly blade began its descent. Even though this performance was, by this point, 30 years old, Ethan was just as thrilled by it now as he was when he first saw it. Just as the large circular saw reached it's target, Ethan felt a buzzing in his pocket. It was his phone ringing. He jumped slightly as the timing of the vibration coincided with the illusionist on screen being severed by the blade.
