Grai alludes to both Gray Brother and Mowgli from Rudyard Kipling's 1894 book, the Jungle Book.

Another idea for Grai would be that he would also start falling for Weiss Schnee, and she and Yang would be at dock in volume 1, but both dislike each other at the start, in Vol 2, in the train fight with the lieutenant, Grai even tries to defend her from the lieutenant's brutally towards believing to be going to far, only for the lieutenant to call him a traitor and attack them both, Blake would later let her brother escape with Weiss from the losing the fight. In Vol 3, Grai and his team is unaware of Cinder's master plan as he's talking with Ironwood, and after saving Weiss from a Alpha Beowolf attack, but badly hurt and Weiss would have Grai be brought to Atlas, persuading her father Jacque, into saving him for good publicity and tricking him to thinking he's a student in Beacon. However in Vol 4, Jacque would later know the truth of Grai and have him confiscated. Weiss would later help him escape with her into leaving to Anima...

his Semblance would be: Wolf Pack, Creation Type, can summon three astral wolves. tie-in with his longing of being with a family, and being with the Belladonnas.

Or something more Werewolf themed, and inspired by the big bad wolf.

In DND, He'd be a Wildhunt Shifter; Class: Monk: Kensei 6 + Druid: Shepherd 14.

In Vol 5, after he and Weiss would have to face against a Lancer Queen and it's lancers, they would crash land near Raven's campsite, and be their captives for a moment. But later on they would meet Yang and/or not Neo, and would later meet with Team RNJR, Qrow, and Ospin/Roman/or Oscar. Later on at the battle of Haven, Grai would take the killing blow for Weiss from Cinder, and Jaune would heal him, with his new-found semblance.

Elsewhere back at Vol 3 Bloo Grijalee and Rukmini Tari would later understand more of why Grai left Team GGRI after seeing the carnage in Beacon, followed Sun Wukong and followed Blake Belladonna to Menagerie basically now Team BSTG (Bowsting). While Ilia was still with Adam, and would later be a part of another team made by Adam himself, Team MYRT (Myrtle) Led by Mamba Naga (who could have the personality of the Wolf in Puss and boots), Yuma (The Bat faunus), Rattus ( An OC), and Trifa (The Spider Faunus) on the assault towards the Belladonnas.

After the battle, Grai would reunite with his adopted family, and his former teammates. and before Vol 6, Team GGRI would be officially disbanded with Ilia, Bloo, and Rukmini stating with Ghria and the new White Fang, and Grai being accepted with team JNR, and now be called Team JNGL (Jungle).
