"It had a broad, square torso, on each side of which grew something resembling wings. They'd never be able to keep anything in flight, though. Rather than elegant beaters of the air they were large, awkwardly shaped fins that jutted out and upwards. A muscular neck curved into a small, triangular head that looked too small for the rest of it. A whip-like tail dragged behind it as it marched in the direction away from them, it's two, thick legs ending in dark, curved claws. It didn't look like it knew they were there, as it slunk away into the darkness, hissing to itself as it went."

The basilisk as he looks in my MLP fanfic I'm busy with.
I based it on the look of a Jenny Haniver because I read that often Jenny hanivers were displayed as "Basilisks" back in the 1600s and I wanted to have an interesting design to it in my story.

One or two people were a little confused by the design but I'm not sure if that's just my poor writing skills or if the design was difficult to picture in the MLP universe compared to the ponies.

I drew this to tie it together better with the ponies themselves. Rarity is next to it for size comparison.

It has a small role in the story, but I rather like it. It looks almost cute here but I was trying to make it scary in the story
