First of all, I like the controlled color palette here (mainly a balance of purples, blues, and greens), and the facial anatomy looks stylized but believable.
There are some anatomy issues, though: For starters, the boy's arms are too short in proportion to his body, as if each has only an upper arm instead of a forearm as well. In this position, the arms would bend at a 45-degree angle instead of being shortened and tensed up like this. Also, his fingers are all the same length (the middle finger should be longest, the pinkie should be shortest, and the index and ring finger lengths would fall in between those) and his eyes are looking at something off to the left instead of looking at the mermaid. To establish gaze, it helps to draw lines from the center of each pupil and make sure they're focused on the intended point. As for the mermaid, her eyes are too long for her eye sockets to contain them (determined by making each eyebrow a segment of a circle) and her breasts are a bit too low on the chest to be believable, especially in a bra (which would create a bit more cleavage, as well). The mass of the breast starts filling out about halfway down the chest, forming a teardrop shape that drops down from the armpit.
About the background: The water is completely opaque, with no ripples or highlights. I know a realistic ocean would be out of place with this style, but at least some broken-up silhouettes under the water would let us know that it's indeed water and not blue Play-Doh. Also, the grass is too bright green and doesn't have enough shading on it to fit into a nighttime scene (try shading on a Multiply layer with a clipping mask above the grass, then erasing the areas the moonlight hits). Finally, the moon isn't reflecting any light, nor does it have any craters, so it just looks like a giant ball. I'd suggest a radial gradient with a white center to give that moon a glow, and look at reference photos to see the basic layout of its craters. It doesn't have to be totally realistic, but the lack of detail comes off as lazy and takes me out of the picture.
So you're off to a good start with the faces and color palette; I might just study more real-life references of anatomy and environment effects. Hope this helps! e.deviantart.net/emoticons/n/n… " width="15" height="15" alt="

I would say this is a pretty good piece. I like the style. The lines are not that messy. Just try to open the mouth when there talking and make sure there not staring into nothing like the boy. Anyways this seems like a decent piece of art work. I would try to improve your style has you go on as well :3. p p p p p p p pp p p p p p p pp p p p p p p pp p p p p p pp p p p p pp p p p p
