"What good am I anyway?" I sighed to myself as I sat on one of the platforms of 'Dream's End', "I'm no help to anyone."
"You know that isn't true." I heard a soft female voice say from behind me.
"Cosmos… Yeah, it's true alright." I said with a sigh.
"Hikari, you can help your comrades. There is more than one way to aid someone." She sighed with a slight smile as she put a hand on my shoulder.
"I… What could I do?" I looked away at that moment. But it's true. What can I do?
"Your presence calms the others' minds. They have someone that they can talk to; someone they can tell anything to." She said as if it were obvious.
I snorted.
"Me? You think they trust me that much?" I sighed, now hugging my knees.
"Yes. They trust you as they trust everyone here." She sat beside me and I turned to face her.
"I guess. But why me?"
"You… You have a certain glow about you. An inviting glow. One that you, yourself cannot see but the others see very clearly." She said with a smile.
"It makes them want to protect me?" I sighed. Great. Just what I needed.
"The eternal light that resides within you provides strength and hope to others; and to you as well, hopefully."
"It almost sounds as if I'm supposed to be my crystal." I said with a laugh.
"You are the eternal light, Hikari." She said as she disappeared, "You just need to believe in yourself."
"I wish that I knew what you meant by 'eternal light'…" I sighed.
"Hikari!" I turned and stood up, brushing my black bangs out of my eyes.
"Tidus, Bartz!" I called back with a wave.
"Jeez, 'Kari, why'd you go off without telling anyone?!" Tidus scolded as he ruffled my hair.
"Sorry. Needed to think about something." I sighed with an apologetic smile. Tidus was like my older brother. Er, the older brother that I never had.
"Is something wrong?" Bartz looked worried. A pang of guilt hit me, hard as soon as I saw his expression.
"I… Um… I guess that I'm just confused. I mean, am I really any help to you guys?" I sighed. My golden eyes looked down to my shoes.
"Of course you are! Who else could I talk to like a sister?" I smiled at Tidus's statement.
"Yeah. Hikari, you're more help than you know." Bartz smiled sweetly. I hugged the two of them.
What I needed was to be able to believe in myself.
And, it's thanks to them that I can.
But I'm still confused about this 'eternal light' thing.
