Description It all began as I stared at the sky,
What could you claim as 'reality'?
I would be open-minded to your answer,
Seeing as I don't have one for myself.
How?
Why?
All the lies and thorns in my side have left me
Hurt
Wary
And nearly destroyed.
Nothing made sense to me as my life became awry.
I was reaching for something,
Some lingering piece of me
That this life made me abandon.
I reached up,
Wondering about what would be left of me.
Nothing?
The torment that leaves all these scars unseen,
When would it stop?
Overhead I saw a dove in flight;
My eyes lingered on it.
One of my fantasies as a child was to have wings,
It is still one of my fantasies now.
I wouldn't ask to accomplish my goals like lightning,
I will not ask to have them forever.
What I want is to know how it feels,
Soaring above the war-torn earth,
Finding a secret spot, hidden away,
Seeing some of the unseen beauty…
My eyes had closed for a moment, hiding the sun from view.
The day sky is lovely,
But I live for the night.
The stars and moon have a far more comforting aspect to me.
I inhaled the smell of the sweet night,
That wonderful smell of a fall night…
I only live for such simple, such trivial things now.
I wonder if I could ever grasp onto anything else…
My eyes opened to reveal the day sky again.
I sighed deeply, wishing that the night, or at least the twilight would come
And take me under their dark cover.
I noticed a single feather floating down.
My hand reached out to catch it as I sat up.
Another war-torn world,
Another wish,
That is what I saw.
Even a winged creature cannot fly without a hint of doubt.
But what I want…
I want to be there for someone, anyone who needs it.
Someone that needs someone to hear them out.
Someone that needs someone to listen.
Tears flowed down my fair-skinned cheeks.
"I want to be there for you,"
The only words that left my mouth.
My wish.
It was what I could grasp onto,
That missing piece of me.
