Description

Updating the Phantom-Tank wasn't an easy task this time because I had an idea I wanted to carry out where I was heading away from the original idea behind it and wanted to give it a more flimsy but also, faster appearance to contrast that of the Demolisher tank.

Whereas the aforementioned Demolisher is a flying tank, complete with heavy armor and oversized engines to just barely keep it in the air; the Phantom is graceful, fast and agile in the air but light-weight and nimble on the ground. Its more a plane with a cannon on the back of it than a true tank and while its gun is oversized and capable of impressive feats in the air, its never intended to be thought of as a fighter-jet, more so a nimble strike-platform that like the Demolisher, should have to land to deploy its weaponry at full power.

Its cannon also has a much greater range of mobility and scope than the Demolisher and can tailor its output as it fires a concentrated burst of plasma that can be either directed in a non-relenting beam or be fired in pulses that are lobbed in a more ballistic trajectory. Its a much more precise weapon and as alluded to, can be fired in the air as well, albeit not even close to its fullest potential and deploying the turret itself while flying at full-speed would just be asking for a slew of mechanical failures all at once.

I made it a point that the wings of the Phantom no longer retract fully as this craft prioritizes maneuverability and stability in the air instead of a being a smaller target and a more commanding presence on the ground. Its single-tread makes it versatile in its own right as it is very fast and able to clear a variety of terrains with the assistance of its thrusters, but it has an appallingly wide turn-circle, is cumbersome at low speeds and it relies on constantly shifting its weight by means of angling its large wings, to steer by means of shifting its center of gravity.

Phantoms are most often employed in groups with gunship support and rapidly charge into the battle-theater where they land to deploy their weaponry and aim to disorientate the enemy rather than outright destroy their targets, instead pinning down the enemy till heavier strike-craft and often, Demolisher tanks can catch up to finish the job. They do make decent scout-craft though because of their high speed and agility as well as their versatility.
