Well, he use to be a part in the circus w/ his parents. They were called The Flying Graysons and his mom's nickname for him was "Robin". But when his parents were murdered Bruce Wayne(Batman) took him in to be his adopted son. Richard came across the Batcave and begged Bruce for him to become his sidekick and then THATS how he got the name Robin.
