The colourpoint's breath caught in his throat with a horrific lurch - Badgerstrike hadn't quite expected, well, that. He took a heartbeat to compose himself, to rattle in a shaky breath that whistled through his gaped teeth. He had underestimated Frostshade, yes, but he wouldn't make the same mistake twice. The grey-and-white tabby seemed to need a moment to catch his bearings and in that split second, he had made his choice. For a single fraction, he had a slight impulse to rear up on his legs to batter at the other's face to disarm him, but that thought alone seemed to settle an uneasy feeling at the bottom of his gut. He knew, not from memory but from fragments of what kin and friends had told him, that he hadn't dealt particularly well with a facial injury and although he remembered little of it he was determined not to let anything remind him of it. Or let anyone else experience that, either, mock fight or no. So he had charged clearly at him and urged his legs onwards in the hopes that the weight of his body would be enough to knock him askew which might leave an opening to pin him. [A]
