Description
Depicted above: three dicephalic ogres (A father and his younger and older sons) browsing for edible bamboo and berries in a rainforest clearing in West Africa. The youngster gave up on collecting and was fascinated with the cryptozoologists observing him (or perhaps, them).Ogres, or Orcs by some, (Orcus vulgaris occidens) are widespread and successful monster peoples closely related to the Oni and Trolls. Ogres inhabit warm and temperate forests throughout Europe, sub Saharan Africa, Central America, and Southeast Asia. Ogres skin tones usually range from greens to teals and turquoise. Like their relatives the Oni (Orcus vulgaris orientum) ogre men and women sport large tusks of various sizes along with small budding horns. Ogres range in size from 5 to nearly 8ft tall and maxing out at 500lbs at the heaviest. Ogres also have uncannily long arms tipped with massive grasping claws.
One trait that separates ogres from onis is that many ogres are born dicephalic, two fully sapient individual heads resting on a single shared body. Most ogres are not born like this, but the rate of dicephalic ogres born is high enough that some cryptozoologists think this is not just a quirk of genetics. The development of two heads might possibly be a desired trait as two heads can scan for danger and seek prey faster than one. Two ferocious heads on one burley body might also act intimidation against any would be attackers. Some ogres are even born with multiple arm, adding even more to their frightening displays.
In the same way scientists are unsure of gorgons with their snakes, or cerberus with their three heads, it is not exactly known how two-headed ogres operate a shared body. Those observed just seem to perform, share, and live their lives with few interruptions (although arguments between siblings are fairly common). A more dominant sibling can be the "pilot" of the body, but usually some type of compromise is met so that both heads benefit. Ogres can live alongside other monster peoples like gorgon, giants, and centaur. Elves and Ogres have gone to war for territory in the past, but relations now are more stable (however ogres aren't above eating those they find irksome).
Like other monster peoples, competition among their own kind can run very high. In combat and contests, two-headed ogres often win and are showered with praise in their communities (another reason why some think the mutation is a favored adaptation).
Ogres' relationship with humans has been fraught with violence. Humans saw Ogres mindless brutes, and Ogres saw humans as food. Thankfully for both sides, relations have improved to at least neighborly terms.
