Description Genotypes: nLp/nPATN1 or nLp/PATN1PATN2

The leopard complex is a group of genetically related coat patterns in horses. These patterns range from progressive increases in interspersed white hairs in the coat (similar to greying or roan) to distinctive, Dalmation-like leopard spots on a white coat. Secondary characteristics associated with the leopard complex in Capaill Uisce include a white sclera around the eye (Capaill have blue-grey sclera naturally) striped hooves and mottled skin. The leopard complex genes are NOT linked to abnormalities in the eyes and vision in the Capaill Uisce breed.

Base color: None

Modifying Genes: Lp and PATN1 or PATN1 and 2

Characteristics of Semi-Leopard Appaloosa:

Semi-Leopard Appaloosa turns most of the horse's coat white with darker spots of the base coat color scattered over the body, but leaves some areas unaffected. Unlike regular Leopard, which has spots that are generally somewhat uniform, Semi-Leopard has a variety of spots of different sizes and orientations. It may mottle the skin and occasionally the hairs of the base color patches. If the mane and tail are touched by an area with spots, they may be colored as well.
