Description

Taking notes from some people's headcanon about Candy Chiu, I decided to develop my own for a while.

There were some people, while not many of them, who decided that Candy was a full-fledged Korean who was born in South Korea and moved to Gravity Falls, Oregon. That made me think about Candy's childhood for a while. In this artwork, it took place before they immigrated from Korea, explaining a couple of things from here - a Korean name on her name tag, and a flag. Being a native Korean myself with a sister whose age is roughly same with Mabel Pines (and Candy), I remember I tried to develop some details about Candy's childhood, utilizing a part of my exepriences.

For the Korean fanbase, I also made a couple of references on GF Korean dubs from this fanart.

The name on Candy's nametag: In the second Korean dub("괴짜가족 괴담일기"), as lots of characters had been, Candy also received a Korean full name. She was named as "주소연(Ju So-yeon)" in that dub, and I took the first name "소연" and combined with her canon last name. Thus you got "추소연(Chu So-yeon)" in this fanart.
Candy's dad: His physical appearance is based on 장민혁(Jang Min-hyeok), Dipper's Korean voice actor from the first Korean dub("디퍼와 메이블의 미스터리 모험"). He was regarded as some of the well-received casts from Korean dubs of Gravity Falls in the Korean fanbase as long as I can remember. Do you wonder how Mr. Jang looks like? As an extra, I tried to capture how the local elementary school looked like in mid-to-late 2000s in Korea. I asked some people around me for advice prior to completing the art. Fortunately, they can see what I intended for its background. That was a relief for me!
