Description Yet another cliche.... charismatic fantasy beasts on a vantage point.

Nngh. This was a hasty, very small ink/watercolor/gouache painting. It was turning out OK until I broke out the white gouache and fell into the 'use white as highlight' trap. It may be a shortcut, but it flattens out your figures and generally makes things look like poo.

...

You heard me. Poo.

There was this fantasy series I read AGES ago, like 10 years or so, that had a race of Cat-like creatures that feathered ruffs. I believe they sang like birds also. This reminds of that and makes me wish I could find those books again. If my memory isn't completely shot they were good books . In other words I really like this a lot and I do not think it looks like poo.

pffft! bullcrap! this doesnt look like poo to me! not in the least! its beautiful! you are so skilled! you have one of the greatest galleries i have seen on DA thusfar. Your beasts, monsters, dragons, gryphons! they're all so amazing! your creatures are so imaginative! and might i add that i am so envious of your talent with color!
amazing work!

Awesome creatures...

but.... here's the critique...

too many colors. it just makes it too busy. Different shades of less colors would look nicer.

Thanks for sharing and the chance to comment. Still love your work.

The background distracts a little from the creatures, but I have a think for kitty toes. Expecially kitty toes with great big claws. Grins.

The details and colors and overall fuzziness of the characters is awesome.

I like it, but i'm having trouble discerning between the two characters
I think it's just the ammount of color that's been used coupled with the fur detailing. It makes it kinda busy looking.

You're still a talent whore you damn talent whore

I was sure the backmost monster was saying "Look! I'm mating with my bored friend!" but I noticed his right hand further up, he's only climbing...

Regardless of their activity, I think they are very cool, I don't recall seeing anything like them before.

Your work has been getting alot more colorful of late. It's very pretty, but you might want to make your darks darker. Just a thought... don't hurt me .

I'm not going to hurt you. X) If I didn't want constructive criticism, I wouldn't put my work on the 'net. Thank you for your thoughts... contrast over detail has always been tough for me, as much as I rant against mindless rendering.

Well there are several tough tight-ropes an artist has to walk. Mindless rendering is one thing when it comes to a bowl of fruit or a landscape, lord knows I'm not a big advocate of purely representational art. However there are a few things we learn early on, that help us give form to the formless: ie the more inspired genres; the ones that have nothing to do with realism but benifit most from those skills. Woops, I'm preaching. See you around.
