There’s a pub in Dagenham that harks back to the old days, before London’s boozers were replaced by expensive eateries and bars that sell gin at £10 a shot and are frequented by hipsters called Olly, with regrettable facial hair and even more regrettable tattoos.

Located in a narrow, grimy street, nestled between a bookies and a kebab shop, the nameless pub looks closed and fire-damaged from the outside. People ignore it, never looking its way, though their step quickens as they pass by.

Inside, it is dingy, the carpets are miserable and beer-stained, it has a lingering smell of urine and a whiff of brimstone. There’s a jukebox and a pool table and a portal to hell in the back room.

The landlord, a demon named Sarzath, is pleasant enough for a servant of the Evil One, but never ever accept his offer of a drink on the house. Buy it, or decline it, but never accept the drink. Demonskinners' Rule No.8: be cautious of any bargains, gifts or favours offered. Even seemingly harmless requests can have dire consequences, leading to a lifetime of servitude or eternal damnation.
