Description The Gallowsbridge is a sombre reminder of Vermistad's tumultuous history. It spans the River Vermis, connecting Old Vermistad to the newer sections of the city, serving as both a physical and metaphorical link between the past and the present.

The name Gallowsbridge harkens back to a darker time, when the last king Lygol XXIII sought to instil fear in the hearts of his subjects. The bridge was once bordered by rows of gibbets, where the bodies of the king's enemies were publicly displayed as a warning to all who would defy the crown.

The gibbets were removed during the Glorious Uprising of 1036. The citizens of Vermistad, rising up against the tyrannical king, dismantled the gruesome structures and used the reclaimed wood to construct the pyres upon which Lygol's lackeys and corrupt ministers were burned.

The gallows may be gone but the name lingers, a reminder of the king's cruelty and the price paid by the ordinary Vermistaders who took a stand against his oppressive rule.
