Persephone was the result of an extra-marital affair between Lorna Cross and Alister Azimuth, Alister being being unhappy with his marriage and having a short lived but heavy affair. Persephone was conceived around the time of Ratchet's birth, but the relationship was broken off due to Lorna's dislike of Alister's work with Tachyon, whom, like Kaden, she did not trust. She refused to tell Alister of her pregnancy when she found out and instead claimed Persey as an In Vitro fertilization, same as Angela was.

Persey and Angela were raised as sisters on Vapedia, Persey going by the surname Cross until she was about 24. The girls went to school on Vapedia, though neither showed the same kind of fighting prowess as the Valkyries. Angela, being 7 years older than Persey, left Vapedia to go study Biology in the Bogon Galaxy while Persey stayed with Lorna. She took as job as a courier ship pilot, enjoying the flying part of it. She made good friends with a few others from the Academy: Ashka (A daughter of the former leader of the Valkyries and one of the school's brightest), Ariah (a daughter of a Terraklon representative and a very high-class girl whose family felt she needed to be more 'cultured'), Celsepe (A Markazian/Cazar mix whose father was a politician in the Galactic President's cabinet), and Alfie (a Lombax that had been adopted from an orphanage by two Valkyries, then sent to another school when he came out as trans-male to his mothers in order to give him a better life)
