Description I Guess It's Mass Effect 2 Fanfiction
Different and New
The Commander glumily explored about her new ship, seeing all the different things Cerberus had added to the original design of her old ship. One of the most prominent and bothersome was the installment of a new AI, nicknamed EDI. Shepard was slow to trust everything and everyone of the organization that had brought her back from the dead. If they expected her to simply trust them as soon as her dark-brown eyes opened, they had another thing coming.
But, for now, Commander Catelyn Shepard had to play along, and that meant getting to know the Normandy SR-2's crew, organic and synthetic.
   "Commander!"
Oh, great, Shepard thought darkly as she turned toward the overexcited voice. It came from a rather pretty young woman with short orange hair, standing next to the platform overlooking the galaxy map. She smiled enthusiastically at the Commander, and batted her eyelashed almost flirtatiously.
Shepard supressed a shudder and headed over to see what the annoying ginger wanted.
"Yeoman Kelly Chambers, Commander." She introduced herself much too loudly with a salute.
"What do you do?" Shepard said, anxious to get to the point.
"Oh, right to business, I see?" Chambers flashed another smile that Shepard half-heartedly returned. "I'm your personal assistant-"
Shepard choked on her laugh, giving Kelly pause. The yeoman's face was frozen, though, on her annoyingly pleasant smile. The Commander glanced away from Kelly's eyes, clearing her throat somewhat apologetically.
Kelly resumed after Shepard's throat clearge, but Shepard didn't really listen. A personal assistant? Seriously? Why the heck would she need that?
Well, if the Commander did listen to the yeoman, she would've heard Kelly happily explain her job: Kelly would tell the Commander what was going on with the crew and when she had new messages, and other small stuff like that.
"-and, let me say, Commander," Shepard blinked, tuning into Chambers' speech at the mention of her title. Kelly leaned forward, her eyes burning with an uncomfortable passion while she said, "It is an honor to work with you."
"For me," Shepard corrected, taking a subtle step away from the yeoman. "You work for me, Ms. Chambers."
"Just Kelly would be alright, ma'am..." The young woman murmured, deep hurt reflected in her face at Shepard's harsh correction.
Shepard nearly hissed, flashing her teeth bitterly at this girl. She didn't know what Shepard had gone through; first, well, Shepard died, a terrible suffocation in the empty void of space after the original Normandy SR-1 was destroyed by...something. She had no idea where any of her former crew, minus Joker, was, like Garrus, Tali, Liara, and Kaidan-
Kaidan. The very thought of him nearly brought Shepard to tears. How did he, and all the others of her crew, react to her death? How would they react when they, hopefully, saw her again, alive and well and with Cerberus? Would he...would Kaidan still care for her as much as he did two years ago? Did he still...love her?
And was it really fair to take this out on this young, innocent woman?
Shepard sighed, running a hand over her face and holding it there briefly. Tears threatened at the corners of her dark eyes. Kelly tilted her head, not so sure how to react to her Commander's sudden shift in emotion.
"Ma'am...?" Kelly ventured, safely keeping her distance.
"So, Kelly." Shepard breathed after she recovered, dropping one of her hands to shake the yeoman's, who gladly took the offer. "Welcome aboard."
