no, a pulse
begging to be let out.

it is unbearable!
There is life under my skin,
death in my mind,
and a blade in my hand.

The thrum in my veins
and the pounding in my head
there's no point to this
or anything, really
I set down the blade,
still clean,
and absentmindedly scratch
