Everything stops in an instant -suspended, like a penny falling
onto asphalt - free for a glittering moment.
Rewind and fast-forward.
Cancer has a way of doing that -
rushing you into emotions you never
wished to feel, never imagined
would claim you as its next statistic.
Statistic.
That's me to a "T" - just a number,
trapped in a mass of millions just as
scared, just as
numb.
A wish - to scream to the world
I have cancer! Why me?!?
Yet never wanting a soul to know, to pity,
to make the sores inside your heart ache
more.
I know what that's like now...
And I wish to God I didn't.
