Description In the dimly lit cabin where no
moonlight joins the hammocks rocking
slowly back and
forth, gliding mid-air with the sway
of this lady's belly we dwell in - like
unborn infants swimming in
amniotic fluids -
I hear the shivering scratching of the
rats scurrying across the
wooden planks that groan
from the pressures of the waves
pushing against the shell they are
attached to.
The rest of you sleep like babes
in your mother's arms, unaware
of the black abyss gaping its
wide mouth to catch all that fall
in its ever expanding pit
as it swallows the Earth inch by inch,
until the whole of it has slipped
from its plate
and drips down the sides
like thick, dark-red paint creeping down
a painter's canvas.
