Assignment II: Event Interviews
Rovelard "Rovie" Weigel || LNS Cucao
--
When it came to Obertauern and the first place he could rest for a few minutes... of course you couldn't expect Cucao to behave.
Firstly, he made sure to have all the logistics of these days in order. Then, he went to attend to Cucao and all the needs the small horse might need. However, as he approached the place he knew the mare was supposed to be eating hay, there was no Cucao to be seen, only one broken halter.
Of course she pulled one of those.
He quickly looked around and could not spot her in the distance, so, the next step was to... walk around asking people if the have seen a small horse on the loose. Someone did, thankfully, and she wasn't that far away.
As he went towards the place that was indicated, he could spot the rug Cucao had over her while she happily ate hay that belonged to another horse.
"Oh Cucao" he muttered as he approached her and the mare perked up, nickering towards him "yeah yeah, don't give me that look."
He spoke softly and a bit annoyed towards her while doing a DIY halter with the rope that was left behind on the old, deceased halter she had been using until her arrival. However, as the minutes passed his grumpiness gave space to his typical self; it was, after all, Cucao. It would be a fun anecdote to tell on the future.
As he got her to move, he noticed his glasses were quite dirty. Like, extremely dirty. He took them off, trying to clean them in the process and found himself on a strong halt as someone approached him. He almost didn't spot them, and proceeded to give an apology and-
It was quite ok. The person presented himself as Koda (and he was sure he had heard the name before), he was a reporter from a certain broadcasting plataform. The man got questions and Rov, being himself, was happy to answer them. Also, Koda happened to have a fascinating voice; he did not say that out loud.
'So, was there a factor that decided the order of the horses? And what strength did each horse bring'?
Rovie looked at Cucao, who happened to be looking for any kind of interaction with the reporter and, succeeding in getting most of the spot-light. He smiled.
"Well, yes, there's quite a few. For instance Cucao here, she's my bravest mare and the one I know she could handle this one leg the best; not only because of her literal breed being born in the Andes, but because of her personality." He stopped for a moment and thought about the other mares. "I got quite a few young array of mare for the whole event, so, logically, the most inexperienced one of them went on the first leg. It was a calculated risk, as she has never even competed before, but her personality compared to other posible steeds was what conviced me. And for the last leg? Well, I got Riga waiting for me. I might be biased, but from them all, she's the most spectacular horse I train for endurance. She's not as brave as Cucao here but here's the thing- Once you're on the trails with her, she wants to conquer the world with you, and I need that kind of horse for the last leg, as I will probably be on my own last leg." he chuckled at the really bad pun, and looked once again towards Cucao. Now, she seemed to take interest on Koda's jacket and he subtly tried to distract the mare from accidently bitting the man, even thought he didn't seem to mind her antics.
'How did they prepare for the harsh conditions and the long rides?'
"Well-" he thought about it for a moment. "Skúa was the one that needed a harder training the most. It was my main ride during the trails for months and I looked towards excercising her stamina, more than anything. Here, our pace was slow and careful, but at the end it was a nice experience for her. In the case of Cucao and Riga, thought, both of them had been on longer rides that are more similar to the time we spend here." he said as he looked around, as to make a point "In the same sense, both mares had competed in Patagonia, which can be cold as fu-HELL, so it was easier to get them on shape for this kind of experience."
'Lastly, What experiences had they make so far?'
"Oh! as I said, for Skúa it was a nice, learning experience. It was probably a risky bet on her, and I probably tested her limits quite a bit, but she answered accordingly. As for Cucao here..." he looked once again back to the mare, who continued to try and get all the attention possible. "Well, she's just herself. So far, so good; I have not been able to find a limit to how far she's willing to go. My only issue is her Houdini tendencies, as you can see." Rovie chuckled as he signaled the very ugly try of a halter, and recieved a chuckle from the other man himself.
Now, probably it was a question out of the typical interviews he was doing around, but the 'tell me more about Cucao here' made him smile nonetheless.
"WELL, my little friend here is probably one of the only two mares I trust my daughter on when she wants to race. She's a bit feisty, a bit ridiculous in her tendencies, but a fun horse all around. She's confident in herself and when there's something that might spook her, she tends to investigate it until she deems it safe. To ride her sure is a pleasure! She was the one to bring me back to endurance and the one who brought my daughter too to her first races. As I said, she's a criollo and was born back in Chile, on the Andes, so most of the weird weather conditions doesn't really faze her. AND- she's a trickster who loves to open doors and break halters." he laughed as he petted the mare on the neck and, finally, the mare snatched the microphone away from Koda's hand.
Rov stopped looked at her, surprised and a bit taken aback; and it seemed that Koda reacted faster than him, giving a laugh to her curiosity and promptly thanking him for the inteview and as he retrieved the microphone, (probably jockingly) asked the mare for an interview, as she continued to nib at the man and nicker at him.
Well if anything, maybe the mare would go viral somewhere.

Well, at least Cucao got a friend lol.
Trivia about Rovs name: He absolutely hates his own name.
Given the opportunity, he will ALWAYS prefer to be called Rov, Rovie or even Klaus, which is his second name.
So, R. Klaus Weigel it was.
