This is my entry for the Toshiba Seriously Japanese content.

I think the biggest way that digital technology has changed our world is by allowing people to connect with each other, sharing whatever they want with people they know and do not know through personal devices. Having access to so much information and being able to share anything from a thought to a classic piece of art with a few finger taps, regardless of where in the person is (assuming they are connected to the internet), helps to bring the world together. I wanted to focus on the everyday situation of some Japanese people commuting on a train, digital technology has made life a lot easier by making the mundane more bearable. After visiting Japan twice I always associate the people there with trains, to me it was an essential part of the country.

I wanted to try a modern manga style with an influence from the Japanese artist Shohei Otomo. Manga is a form of storytelling which is why I chose it to tell the little scenario of a modern traveler about to share a classic piece of Japanese artwork. Trying to connect and share while ironically isolating herself \himself from the people around her\him. I also liked the idea of an artwork showing travelling in the past in an artwork showing travelling of the present. I made this drawing with Photoshop and a little Illustrator and a Wacom tablet.

A big thanks to my good friend Ryota, I needed a reference photo for my drawing of Japanese people on a train so I sent him a quick sketch and instructions of what I wanted and he took the photo for me. Also a thank you to my housemate Ash for being my hand model.

Oh I forgot the big writing on the right hand side and on top of the tablet means 'share'.
