Sumps continuosly dribble and vomit up the fluids which filter through the fine grate of the floor, where it is collected for processing.

Sumps are normally 'tapped'- like a keg -by amputating their face and parts of the forebrain, greatly increasing flow and making the large beasts much easier to handle. They forage for their own food- slurping up what they can find with the nub of their exposed esophagus, supplemented by troughs of nutrient broth left out by their owners.
